To The Lighthouse

I visited Terry Elkins in his Bridgehampton studio earlier this week: always great to see him!

I’m thrilled to let everyone know I have snagged some beautiful paintings and prints by Bridgehampton, New York, artist Terry Elkins for sale.  Terry will be the feaatured artist for Artwalk Rockland on Friday, June 3rd. Please come by & have him sign your poster of your favorite lighthouse.

His Lighthouse Prints, surrounding him here, are limited editions and I’m happy to now be offering them  at Maine Country Home; I also have a number of his paintings, many of them created or conceived along the coast of Maine where I’m happy to say I now reside. Once you see the lighthouses in person, you’ll understand Terry’s fascination with them. His renderings of them are sketched or painted on tidal charts, which gives them an elemental feel perfect for beachside cottages.

I took a video of him signing them (just for fun): you can see it on my YouTube channel!

A General Store That’s So Much More…

IMG_2441I happened upon the East Boothbay General Store this week and found myself wanting to snap up so many of the decorative elements owner Elizabeth Evans has gathered under one roof. Knobby throw pillows, seaside-inspired ceramics, hammered metal accents, curvy lamps made from the thick rope that calls dockside living to mind, and some of the best crafts from Maine only scratch the surface of her wares. If you happen to be in the mid-coastal region of the state, make it a destination stop, as the pizza and sweets will make you want to kick back for a bit before continuing along on this spiky coastline where water views are around nearly every corner! I highly recommend that you like the general store on Facebook to stay current with what’s doing, such as a call to action for one of their vendors who is currently in dire need of license plates to make his adorable dust pans. He’s an eighty-year-old gentleman from Old Towne and he’s run out of sources for them. You can see them to the far right in the photo above. Don’t you think he should be able to continue his art?

If you’re planning to create or freshen up a coastal cottage, she has some excellent finds here. Her throw pillows alone are enough to add luminous dashes of color to any room.

A Space of One’s Own

Hi everyone: Zina here!

I landed on a beautiful section of the wildly rugged coastline of Maine  just over 3 years ago.

I instantly opened  a shop, within a larger shop, filled with vintage goodies called THE ZINA ZONE; it was a marvelous way to sell a barn full of treasures accumulated from the past 30 years of living on the Eastern end of Long Island.  Shelter Island was my last refuge before I fled to Maine.

I am currently getting opened with a great new concept.  The Design Doctor will be in residence at Maine Country Home, in Rockland.  The store is open Monday through Saturday  from 10  a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the Spring season. I’m currently setting up a special section to present OLICANA FABRICS, imported from England.  Stay tuned for a post about these amazing woven cottons, linens, velvets, & wools along with a line of home accessories made from the very same fabrics. We  have a great selection Annie Sloan chalk paints, EFEX USA decorative details, as well as furniture with personality plus & accessories to make any room come to life.

If you do stop in and I’m not there, it means I am either out on a site visit or hunting for some special treasures to add to the mix!  I love getting up to the Maritimes in the summer.   Happy Hunting to all!
